New babies

Savanna and Hallie got some bunnies this last summer.  We tried to get both the same sex, but that didn't happen.  We ended up with babies.  They were born on Thursday.  Savanna wondered if they would be coming soon.  Lola had started making a nest.  Savanna went out to check on them and saw the babies.  She thought they were dead.  They weren't moving and they were cold as ice.  So she brought them in to show me they were dead.  She decided to just try warming them up and see what happened.  They started waking up.  It was the craziest thing.  So then we were faced with the dilemma of now what.  We were worried that now that we had touched them, would the mom take them?  Will she abandon them?  I have heard sometimes the mom can eat them?  So we rubbed some of her nest hair on them, the mom pulls her hair out to make a nest, and put them with the mom.  We decided to bring the mom inside.  We had to seperate the mom and dad because mom can get pregnant again the very next day after birth.  Yikes.  So we found a spot for the babies and mom inside for the next week or two so they can survive.  She started out with 4 babies.  When we revived them the very first, 1 never woke up.  And today we lost another gray one.  The two that are left seem ok, but who knows.  I hope we can keep them alive.  We have been doing some reading.  They only nurse one time every 24 hours.  It is usually between 2 and 5 am.  They just sit over them and the babies nurse.  The mom doesn't lay down like a cat or dog would.  Hopefully Lola is feeding them.  Hard to tell.  We will see if they have full tummies in the morning.

They kids are so excited and can't wait to be able to hold them.  I hope they get that big.

Bunny update-  These little guys didn't make it.  They lived for a couple days.  Mommy was trying but just didn't work out.  It was kind of a dramatic entrance and a lot of changes took place when we brought her in.  We will try again and hopefully have bunnies in a couple months.
