Girls Camp

Savanna and Hallie survived girls camp.  Sounds like they had a great time.  A few things Hallie told me :
We had the most people and the smallest tent.
I was cold the first night but hot the rest.
My favorite part was the secret sisters gift.  I got like 5 things a day.
I had to use my bucket to sit on because I forgot my camp chair in the car.
Me and Savanna were the only ones not crying during the testimony part.  We are Berlinguet tuff - she gets that from her father.
Savanna shared her testimony.
I got my fingers burned a few times trying to start the fire.
Our hike was only suppose to be 5 miles but it was more like 9 miles.
I had a headache one evening from the hike.
We all had meal duties.
Food was good.
I am tired.
I got a sunburn on my head.
We  had fun playing pranks on each other.
I had to help sort out the drama the first night with the silly string prank.

Savanna's comments:

It was good.
I didn't sleep in my assigned tent.

Do you think these girls are complete opposite or what?  I am sure they will both have more to share about it.  Savanna was upset at me tonight because I wouldn't let her stay the night at her friends house.  Even though we have made the no sleepover rule for quite some time now, they still have to ask and we still have the same argument.  Except tonight she used the "Why do you hate me" line.  That one just made me laugh.  I hope some day she will understand that it is because I love her.
Anyways, a big thank you to all the people that helped put camp together.  It is a lot of work but it really does create some wonderful memories and friendships in these kids.

Two front teeth

Yesterday Aleena came running downstairs crying "my tooth fell out". She had a bit of panic in her voice so at first I thought maybe she knocked one of her grown up teeth out but it was a baby one. She just hadn't bothered it and didn't realize how ready it was to come out. Cute little thing.

On the Road again.

We headed out to Salt Lake again this morning.  Kell came with me again.  It is nice to have some company and someone to help out.  Livee loves her Aunties.  She wanted Kell to carry her most of the time.  Livee wore her grumpy pants in to the Dr office today.  The PT wanted her to walk and she flat out refused.  The nice lady even put cute fish stickers on the floor so that she could step on them.  "No!".  I had to pretty much pull her to walk.  She was not happy.  I couldn't really get mad at her because I think she is just tired of everything being about her foot, well except for all the goodies and packages she has been getting.  They said her foot is doing great.  She has one little strip on the outside of her foot that needs a bit of ointment and the non-sticky bandage for a few more days but the rest is fine.  She only has to wear a compression sock now.  It keeps her skin real tight and snug to help prevent big scarring.  We are to rub lotion on it every day and keep it nice and soft.  She can start wearing a shoe if it doesn't rub on her anywhere.  We go back in 3 weeks which should be our last appointment unless there is ugly scarring but she didn't think that would be a problem.  And she just washes it with her regular bath schedule.
Her foot seemed really skinny with just that sock on.  I am sure it felt weird for her too.  She was not about to walk on it, so we shoe shopping in hopes to find a flip flop so that she could at least attempt to walk.  The skin inbetween her flip flop toes is fine down below where the shoe would fit, but her actual foot was to swollen and it was too tight where the straps go.  We did finally find the magic shoe.  It fit perfect.  It is soft, they fit, she wanted them.  We pay and get her to the car.  She wants to put them on.  Our next stop is lunch.  Livee was actually willing to try walking now that she had a shoe on.  Kell and I each got a hand and helped her walk.  She took right off like it was nothing.  Her leg is a bit wobbly and she almost hyper extends her knee back but that will come over time.  She walked into lunch, and out of lunch and in the next store.  She was hopping and trying to go on her tipee toes.  I think Kell and I were more nervous of her hurting herself than she was.  She finally started to complain a bit about it bothering her after being in the store for a bit.  Her shoe was rubbing just the tiniest bit.  Her skin is so super sensitive right now.  Over time it will get better.  No swimming yet, but hopefully in a couple weeks she will be ready.  She has to be very careful with it in the sun.  Lots and lots of sunblock.
Back to lunch.  Kell and I stopped and ate at Zupas today.  It was the yummiest place.  We had a salad with berries and a panini sandwhich and they have a soda bar.  Everyone gets a chocolate dipped strawberry with their meal.  I know where I will be eating in 3 weeks when I return.  It is off the Lagoon exit on the west side of the freeway in that new Outlet shopping center.  Thanks Kell for going with me.

Last night she actually took a regular bath with her bandage off.

Here are her magic shoes and her sock.

Here is how it fits on her toes.

They don't bring all their projects home.  She talked about a plate that they worked on that had sea creatures on it.  She loved it.  Livee has been moved to her class and can hopefully start going again next week.

Brother Boomer

Add caption
Boomer is such a goof ball.  He tries to do everything the kids do.  Hallie was looking out at the horses and Boomer would stand there next to her.  The new Adele song "Rumor has it" we sing it as "Boomer has it".  Quite catchy.

Livee walking

Livee was showing her Daddy how she can take some steps.  She is very proud of herself.  She says it doesn't hurt.  I think her leg has forgot how to work.  She will get better over time.  She still crawls most of the time because it is quicker and easier.

Foot is healing amazingly

These are from this morning.  It is looking amazing.  Surprisingly the inside looks better than the outside.  She actually took some steps today all by herself.  I will have to get it on video.

Loved...

Livee was spoiled again today. Our friends the Astons came and brought a couple movies over for Livee to watch with a treat. Her gymnastics teacher brought her a fun Disney princess paint/color set. And Grama Darlene sent her a package in the mail. She is sure loved. Thank you.
She made some progress today. She actually let her foot sit in the bathtub. She still had her wrap on, but it was still getting wet. We also were able to get through foot wash with just her and I. She was able to reach my bicep and give it a little squeeze when needed. She also put her foot on the floor a couple times today in a standing position. She didn't want to take a step but it is improvement.
I am still sleeping with her on her bed. We moved her mattress back down to her room last night. I was going to let her sleep 6 hours before medicine but she woke up at about the 5 1/2 hour mark crying that her foot hurt. Really elevating it seemed to help until her medicine kicked in. She slept like a tornado. She was all over the place. A new direction every hour.
We made a quick trip to town to get last minute camp stuff. The girls are getting super excited. Aunt Kell was here for play practice so she braided the girls hair real tight so they could have it in for a few days of camp. She is an awesome braider.
The picture is of the oil mesh stuff that goes on her foot.

Misc. shots...

This is from the night of the emergency room.  She got a star kiss from DQ and was so proud of her tongue being such crazy colors.  She wanted me to take a picture of it so she could see it.

Our first visit to SLC.  I got her a new blanket.  She was lovin it.

Holding her barf bucket.  Poor thing.

She is totally posing this one.  She was in a silly mood and Lucy gets tortured by her.

Showing off her new Hello Kitty shoe and sock.

This is where we have been camping out.  She was so sound asleep here for a nap.  Wanted to gobble her up.

She was in a really silly mood.  This is her crazy pose.  She was testing out the mini recliners.

She is trying out the bike video game.  Even with her hurt foot.

I can't believe it has only been a week since Livee's accident.  It has felt like a month.  I am actually starting to feel like a human being again.  I know it is all I have talked about this week but it has truly consumed our lives.  She is really doing so much better.  I am really amazed.  Last Sunday night I wasn't sure what our summer was going to be like, but we are going to be just fine.
We went to church today.  Livee just came to nursery with me.  She might have a hard time going back to her class.  Nursery was lots of fun.  Kaydee and her family came and went to church with us and stayed for dinner.  Our kids love hanging out with each other.  We talked of playing a game of baseball but I am not sure that ever really got put together.  I think the big kids went out and did some hitting but Livee wanted to swing Kaydee and I hung out in the back yard.  It was a nice night.
Only got one session of therapy in on her foot.  She did some swinging and that really works her foot.  Livee fell asleep about 7:30.  We will see if actually sleeps all night.  I forget that even tho she isn't sick, her little body is still exhausted from trying to heal and that she has been through a lot so it is probably a good thing she fell to sleep.
Savanna and Hallie have been busy packing for girls camp tonight.  They leave Tuesday and come back Friday.  Savanna hadn't planned on going because of a Volleyball camp that was Wed thru Friday but the coach let me switch her to the one in July.  I just was feeling a bit overwhelmed with getting Livee to Salt Lake on Friday and Savanna to Jerome on the same day.  She wasn't very happy with me and told me this morning "I am NOT going to girls camp".  I replied with a "fine, don't go".  She brought me papers to sign for girls camp at church, =) She is a good girl.  She just had to let me know she was not happy with my choice.  It wasn't an easy choice but I know it is for the better.

Hope you all had a great Sunday.

SLC again.

Yesterday we headed to SLC again.  Kell went with me this time.  Thank goodness for sisters.  Brad figured it would be more helpful if he stayed home with the other kids so I am not worrying about the home front.  We headed out about 6:45 am.  Livee travelled much better this round.  No actual throwing up this time.  She slept most of the way there.  She had a few moments of grabbing the barf bucket but she got threw it ok.  The hospital was a ghost town and traffic was really nice because it was Saturday.  I started getting my pit in my stomach about 10:30.  That's about when we started walking in the hospital.  It just fills me with anxiety knowing they are going to touch her foot and that it is going to hurt.  The first thing the nurse did was take her vitals which included her blood pressure, heart rate, and temp.  She then unwrapped and wiped off her foot with some wipes.  Surprisingly Livee stayed super calm through that.  She was squeezing my finger off, but there was no screaming.  Next the physical therapist came in and looked at it unwrapped.  Then the main lady came in to check her progress.  She said it looks really great.  Everything is turning pink.  She helped clean off some skin that was dead.  This is when Livee started to get upset because it involves scissors.  It was all dead skin, but it is scary when scissors are coming at her.  She cut off some blisters that were on her toes and tried to get some of the white skin that is on her toes. It was detached from her body underneath and I could feel it was dead skin.  So after getting skin off, she then showed me the new way to wrap it.  Instead of the Silvadine cream, we are now using an ointment similar to neosporin.  Rub that on and then we cut pieces of this thin mesh that is oily and lay it on her skin, and in between her toes.  It really keeps her new skin that is growing moist. We then wrap it with the gauze and put the mesh sock on.  We now only have to wash it once a day.  We also can cut back on the narcotic medicine to wash time and ibuprofen the rest of the time.
After it was all wrapped up, the PT came in and worked with her foot for about 10 minutes.  Really showed me how to get aggressive with out her freaking out.  I asked why she complained that it burns when I hold her with her feet dangling vs me scooping her up under knees.  She said that her adult burn patients say that it gets a throbby burny feeling when they put it down to walk but will subside after they start walking.  That makes sense.  They hooked us up with all our supplies and sent us on our way to come back on Friday.
That was it.  We weren't quite ready to go home yet so we decided to make a couple stops.  Centerville has an In-and-Out Burger and Livee was wanting French Fries and I haven't ever been there.  It was LOADED with people, but we fought the crowds and got us a table.  It was yummy.  After lunch we headed over to Target.  My birthday is in a couple days and I have been eyeing a Kindle Fire.  My husband gave me the ok so I got to pick one up.  Happy Birthday to me.
We then decided to stop at the new Gordman's on the Lagoon exit.  It is a fun store.  We didn't end up buying anything, but they had super duper cute clothes that were pretty reasonable prices.  I see more stops there in our future trips.
We pulled into Burley around 6.  We stopped and grabbed Kell's kids.  I saw her mother in law and she came and just gave me the biggest warmest hug and said she is so sorry we had to go through this.  I think this is why I have been avoiding a lot because I kind of lost it.  I got all emotional about and shed a few tears.  There is nothing wrong with crying but I just hate doing it front of people.  It seems so silly to me, but she was so sincere with words that it really touched my heart.
I let Livee play with Tate for a bit at their house.  She said her bum was tired of sitting.  Tate had this fun game that hooks up to the tv.  It is a bike that you sit on and pedal to control the games.  I told Livee she should get on and give it a try.  She hopped on and just started pedaling-with both feet.  It took everything in me to not say anything.  I wanted to tell her to be careful, watch out for your foot.  But I knew that would just freak her out.  It doesn't have any resistance so it probably didn't have a lot of weight on it, but the motion her foot was making will be incredible therapy.  Tate was super nice and said we could borrow it for a bit.  She LOVES it.  We came home and she played it for quite some time.
I worried about her not sleeping well because she only had Motrin in her, but she did fine.  I still gave her Motrin through the night.  I am not ready to chance it yet.  Maybe a few more days.
We got up this morning and got her good meds in her so we could get ready for a wash.  We made her favorites of pancakes while we waited for the medicine to kick in.  I am hoping she will get an appetite back now that we are cutting her meds back.
Wash time went ok.  She took a bath first.  We are working towards her taking the wrap off and then just bathing her foot with her body.  So I didn't protect her foot much from getting in the water.  Her wrap was still on.  I told her it was ok if it got wet.  She splashed a few times trying to be funny.  So hopeful soon she will  be ok with that.  It took twice as long to wash her foot.  The oily mesh stuck to her deeper sections on the inside and the outside. This is where the bath would soak it and help it come off easier.  I just used a cup and poured it on to get it all wet and soft.  That took a bit longer.  The cutting of the strips takes time.  Brad was cutting while I put them on.  She was crying this time because it hurt on her thigh.  She is so busy trying to hold it up that her leg gets a cramp in it.  Hopefully soon she will trust just resting it on the counter top.  She does during the day, but when the wrap is off she is super protective of her foot.  I don't blame her.
I had ointment all over my arms by the time we were done.  It is a bit messier, but her foot is doing so much better.  I am truly amazed every day as to how much it heals.  She really hates me to take pictures of it so they tend to be a bit blurry, but oh well.  I love my little Livee and how brave she is.  I also love my family and friends for how supportive they have been.  It would be hard without them.

Overstimulated

Livee has hit a new phase today. Her foot is super itchy. Her muscles are sore in her upper leg from holding her foot up. She is SUPER irritable. If there is too much noise around she has a meltdown. I felt bad that Kell and her kids came to visit and she was no fun. They did bring her a new kitty webkins. Thank you. I am ready for her to sleep. She wants me but sometimes can't stand to be touched so she doesn't know what she wants. The washing went ok tonight. She had a meltdown from about 7- 10 and I had to wash her foot in the middle of it. I decided to spare you pictures today. If you really want to see them I will show you. My TLC giving meter is super worn out today. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Day 3 Burn..

I woke up feeling incredibly emotional today.  I am pretty sure it was because I knew I had to do the washing thing.  We finally got it over with around 9:30.  Savanna and Hallie had to be my helpers.  They weren't very excited but it went fine.  I gave them both a pair of earplugs so they didn't have to hear the screaming.  Her level of screaming seemed a little less but was still loud.  Livee didn't want the girls to hold her hands so she did her best at not grabbing my arms.  A few times the girls had to keep her hands down.  It went pretty fast.  We just did her foot.  It surprisingly looked better, or else I am getting used to it.  It didn't seem so red.  A bit more flesh color.  I told her we could go for a walk after we were done.  She held me to that.  She LOVES going in the stroller.  Hallie walked with me.  I walked dogs and Hallie walked Livee.  She wanted to walk all day.  Surprisingly she hasn't been sleeping in the day.  Once she is awake she is nonstop.  "Let's paint, let's color, can I play on your phone, what can we do?"  I swear that medicine makes her over sensitive.  She is super moody.  But luckily, she has been sleeping all night, except medicine time.  So I am ok with her staying awake all day.  She wanted to swing today.  I was a bit nervous about letting her.  I envisioned her falling off and breaking her leg, or hurting it.  But I started thinking about how much pain she has already endured and how happy it might make her.  So I told her I would hold her while we swing.  That lasted about 5 seconds and she wanted in her own swing.  She was in her swing for about 30 minutes.  She was pumping her legs and smiling and laughing.  I sat in my chair in the sun by her and scrubbed my feet.  She didn't like the cat or Lucy walking under her for fear of hitting her leg.  Anyways, she was a busy girl today.
It was kind of a quiet day.  Jase had Day Camp for boy scouts and Aleena had art for half the day.  So I actually snuck a nap in today.  It felt sooo good.  I had time waking up.  Aleena offered to play cards with Livee on the bed so I could rest.  I have a mattress in the music room where we camp out at night or day.
Livee decided she would crawl today.  I was worried at first, but I have got to let go of that.  She needs to be active and mobile and I want to just put her leg in a big hard cast so no one bumps it..  A few times I would turn around and she would be gone.  It's hard to not be paranoid at this stage.
Her night time washing went good.  I let her take a nice warm long bath first.  She just propped her foot up in the tub.  She didn't want to do her foot, but she knew it had to happen.  We went fast and she did good.  Yes, still screaming, but it seemed easier on my part.  We wanted another walk after bath time.  It just seems to relax her.  Aleena came with me.  We just strolled.  It was nice.  As we passed Krista's, our neighbor, she had us an ice cream.  She said she had made cookies for Livee yesterday but we were gone.  We talked for a bit, but Livee was getting antsy so we headed home.
I tried to get some of her exercises in.  I didn't make her take any steps but I made her rest her foot on the floor. We got to 10.  I did some stretching.  She didn't like it, but I took it really easy today.  I even just had her let me rest my hand on her foot just so she isn't afraid of anything coming near to it.  We do her exercises with covered and padded so that helps.
Aunt Kell braided her hair for our Salt Lake trip.  She was lovin' all over her on Monday.

She does not like me taking her picture.

We had a nail painting session today.

Here is how she takes a bath.  Propped up on a  milk jug filled with water.

She is going to have sore knees.

Even up the stairs.

Here is how it looked tonight.  Her little toes are starting to blister.  I am guess that skin is next to fall off.

The inside of her foot is worse than the outside.

I am wondering if she will lose the white parts on the bottom of the toes.  It feels and looks like she dipped her toes in wax and let it harden.  The PT said walking would help sluff off some of the dead skin.  OUCH.

Burn assessments

If the previous pictures were hard to see than these are going to be really hard and this post is pretty graphic. I debated posting them because it was pretty traumatic but I have got to have hope this will heal and it will help us see the progress and how far we have come.

We are on our way home from Salt Lake. It has been a rough day for Livee and for me. I am so super thankful that my sister took us. I would have been a wreck. It was fine until Livee started throwing up. We were pretty close to the hospital area when she started throwing up. Luckily we had a towel to catch most of it. Before she threw up we were on the hunt for french fries. She wanted french fries and where she isn't wanting to eat much we were trying to jump on that craving. Of course it was still breakfast time when we found a Mcdonald's and she had thrown up by the time we could get some and she was done wanting to eat. Of course by now it is time to take medicine so it is in her before her appointment and she has to eat with food or she might get sick. I start to feel naseaus and have a big pit in my stomach. The roads in that area are super hilly and curvy and me moving around in the car and my nerves about this appointment were building up. I ate some graham crackers in hopes I could hold it together. It helped. We stopped at Maverik and I got some of those wafer cookies. She ate 2 of them. Wahoo, now she can have medicine....we are home now, to be continued..

So we get to the hospital. This place is like it's own city. It is huge. Thankfully my sister Kell had an umbrella stroller that we brought. She just gets heavy after a while. We get checked in. We went to the Burn Clinic. It is next door the actual Burn Unit. The clinic is for burns that didn't require hospitalization or for patients being released from Burn Center.
We start with the typical questions, immunizations current? Her weight?, What happened? Who treated her? How have you been caring for it? Next she gets on the bed and has her hang her foot off the edge so she can remove the wrap. The foot is still covered in blisters. She has Livee scoot back so her foot can sit on the bed. She gets a couple wet wash cloths and sets them next to her and without any warning (which makes great sense cuz I might have hyperventilated) starts grabbing and pulling and cutting all the blisters and floppy skin off. Don't remember how the scissors sneaked in there but she was using them. Livee was sitting up so she saw her start this. I am sure it hurt like no other plus the sight of raw flesh freaked her out. She was screaming. The nurse was trying to do it as fast as she could. I got her to lay back and told her not to look but she couldn't just lay back. She was kind of thrashing so she would peak glimpses of it. Those few minutes will stay with me forever. The nurse had a whole handful of blisters and skin. She used the cloths to wipe it real good and then layed a cool cloth over it. Phew, it was over. When that raw flesh is exposed to the air it intensifies the pain. The nurse then told me she wants the Dr. to come in and look at it so we waited for a few minutes. Livee was still upset. She said while the nurse was out "They took my skin off". She was saying it in a voice of horror like she might lose her foot. So I reassured her and told her her foot needs to grow new skin that her foot will still be there. She settled a little bit to where she was crying but not screaming. The Dr came in. It was just about this time I started to notice her foot really had quite a smell. Kind of like a morning breath smell. The nurse informed us that blisters larger than a quarter actually slow the healing process down so I am assuming it was the blister goo that was smelly. He didn't want to upset her more by moving in on her foot. So he had me remove the cloth so he could look. He thought the toes would recover. They are white right now but he thinks they should regain their circulation. The bottoms of our feet are pretty tough but the tops of our feet are hard to heal. It is mostly a second degree burn but there are some deeper spots that are white that could be more than that. Burns take time to diagnose the damage and it takes time to see how the skin will start to heal. So those white spots could possibly heal on their own but they could also possibly need some surgical help. He wants to see her again on Saturday and see what her body decides to do. Somewhere in there the physical therapist came in and peaked at it before it got covered up. The dr leaves. The nurse shows me how to care for it. I am to wash it and get old oinment and any sluffy skin off, recream and rewrap twice a day and make sure it is about a good 30 minutes after medicine time and it will be easier on both of us.
After the nurse got her all frosted and wrapped, the physical therapist came back in with some stuff to work on like stretching her toes, and keeping motion in her foot and she really needs her to start walking on it and using it. When new skin grows it is really tight and we need to keep it flexible to prevent loss of motion.

We were finally free to go so we headed to the cafeteria to get some food. Kaydee and I weren't sure if we could really eat. We had lost our appetites. Livee didn't feel hungry but we went in and walked around to see what we could find. I was feeling a bit relieved now that the appointment was over. I didn't realize how nervous I was for it until about now. Anyways, Livee found a slurpee machine and cheetos and we finally decided on something. So we sat and ate and just chilled for a bit. Livee was freezing. So we decided to head out. On the way into town Kaydee dropped her car off in Centerville to get fixed at the dealers so we had a little bit of time to kill before her car would be ready so we decided to head to Target to get Livee something. About 10 minutes after getting in the car Livee's stomach started hurting so I rounded up a pillow case since I had nothing else, and sure enough. Up came her slushy and cheetos. I think the combo of her medicine and driving does not mix well. After getting it all out and cleaned up, she fell asleep. We drove to Target and Kaydee stayed in the car so she could rest while I went in to get her something to wear and a barf bucket. Did I mention before I was thankful Kaydee was there. She woke up after a bit and so we all went in the store. This is when Kaydee and I started to feel exhausted. Like we had been up all night. Our emotions had just drained us. We got a couple other things and headed out. I had gotten Livee a new blanket so she was in heaven snuggling with it. We headed back to Centerville to wait for the car. Livee wanted to go for a walk in the stroller while we waited. She LOVED me to push her. The fresh air and sunshine and being out of the car. We walked for a good 20 minutes. Kaydee test drove some cars while we walked.
We were finally on our way home. Livee slept most of the way. Kaydee dropped me off in Burley at my car at Kell's. We ran in and got her medicine again so that she would be ready for a bath when we got home.
I have held it together pretty good so far but the bath thing was tough. We put her in the tub first to wash her hair and body. She is already crying in anticipation of the foot part. I kept her wrap on for this and just propped her foot up. Then we put her robe on and did just her foot in the sink. This way her foot had a smaller window of exposed air. Brad held her arms and I did the washing. Not fun. Quite disgusting to be honest. She was screaming and the kids that were home, Jase and Aleena were concerned. We survived. And the thought of me doing that to her twice a day for how long became incredibly heavy on me. I escaped to the shower myself after she was all settled and I finally had my moment of breakdown. Once it was out I felt better. I got out and I had a pow-wow with my 3 older kids of this is when families pull together. This injury is going to temporarily change our lives. I can not do it all and everyone needs to pitch in. I might have to be gone or just be with Livee. At times all she wants is mom. They weren't super excited but they are good kids. They love Livee and are very concerned and so we will survive.

Driving

We are driving to Salt Lake to our Burn Center appointment. I haven't been sleeping well so I am super thankful that Kaydee is driving us. I lay awake at night with a pit in my stomach thinking about the what ifs, what if she would of burned both feet, what if she had pants on and caught her clothes on fire, etc. Then my heart is full of gratitude because it could have been worse and I am humbled because I still have her with me and it really makes me think about how fast my life can change or one of my loved ones can be taken at any time. Anyways, my heart is full for all the prayers and support that have been our way.

Burned

If any of you viewers have weak stomachs for wounds stop now.
Livee had a bad accident yesterday, Father's Day. Her cousins, Faith and Cooper and Livee were out exploring. The rest of us were in the house chatting and cleaning up dinner. I was downstairs changing my clothes when I heard her screaming. I was thinking maybe she broke a bone playing rough with the big kids. Brad had run out the back door as she was coming in the music room door. Savanna got to her first. She wasn't sure what was wrong. She noticed something on her foot and told Brad she had some yellow powder on her foot. He then realized it was a burn. I came up about this time. We were all a bit confused on how she would have burned herself. We then remembered there was a pile of smoldering wood shavings and grass clippings out by the barn. It just kind of smoldered underneath and the grass clippings on top kept the hot part hidden. So it was like ashes underneath. Not sure why she decided to step there. It doesn't matter. It happened. Now the focus is getting her better.
As soon as I realized the burn was worse than a cinge, I called a friend that is an EMT. She came over and helped us wrap it. Kaydee was over having dinner so she drove while I held Livee in the back. I had no Tylenol or ibuprofen. So she was in a lot of pain. She was really screaming. Half way to Burley she wanted to go to sleep. I was a bit worried about that but I my friend said it was normal. It only lasted for about a minute then she was back to screaming. We finally got to the ER. They knew we were coming but it still took some time for them to get her name and checked in. Then they got us in a room. They poured some sterile liquid in a pan and had her soak it. She didn't want to at first but as soon as she put it in there she said " that feels sooo good". After a bit they got her some Tylenol. She actually fell asleep with her foot in the liquid. She started getting to cold so they took it put. They didn't want her to get hypothermia. She was not happy about that. As soon as it hit the air she started screaming again. The dr. examined her and had the nurse come in and dress it. She covered it with burn cream and wrapped it. She was still screaming. So she got her some Motrin. After a bit she started to settle down. She actually accepted a sucker from the nurse. She wanted nothing to do with it the whole night. They sent us home with some narcotics and some clean dressing and instructions to call the burn center. She actually slept really good. Had to wake her up for medicine. Tough part was trying to get her to eat something with her medicine.
These pictures are of her foot 24 hours after. This was our second dressing change. Her first one this morning went flawless. My friend Amy came over to help me because I thought she was going to scream her head off but she didn't even flinch. Tonight I figured I could do it but she had a hard time. She pretty much screamed the whole time. She is doing ok with her medicine. After 3 hours she starts to feel itchy and complains about it a bit. She really has been tough. I will post ER pictures in a min.
