Burned
If any of you viewers have weak stomachs for wounds stop now.
Livee had a bad accident yesterday, Father's Day. Her cousins, Faith and Cooper and Livee were out exploring. The rest of us were in the house chatting and cleaning up dinner. I was downstairs changing my clothes when I heard her screaming. I was thinking maybe she broke a bone playing rough with the big kids. Brad had run out the back door as she was coming in the music room door. Savanna got to her first. She wasn't sure what was wrong. She noticed something on her foot and told Brad she had some yellow powder on her foot. He then realized it was a burn. I came up about this time. We were all a bit confused on how she would have burned herself. We then remembered there was a pile of smoldering wood shavings and grass clippings out by the barn. It just kind of smoldered underneath and the grass clippings on top kept the hot part hidden. So it was like ashes underneath. Not sure why she decided to step there. It doesn't matter. It happened. Now the focus is getting her better.
As soon as I realized the burn was worse than a cinge, I called a friend that is an EMT. She came over and helped us wrap it. Kaydee was over having dinner so she drove while I held Livee in the back. I had no Tylenol or ibuprofen. So she was in a lot of pain. She was really screaming. Half way to Burley she wanted to go to sleep. I was a bit worried about that but I my friend said it was normal. It only lasted for about a minute then she was back to screaming. We finally got to the ER. They knew we were coming but it still took some time for them to get her name and checked in. Then they got us in a room. They poured some sterile liquid in a pan and had her soak it. She didn't want to at first but as soon as she put it in there she said " that feels sooo good". After a bit they got her some Tylenol. She actually fell asleep with her foot in the liquid. She started getting to cold so they took it put. They didn't want her to get hypothermia. She was not happy about that. As soon as it hit the air she started screaming again. The dr. examined her and had the nurse come in and dress it. She covered it with burn cream and wrapped it. She was still screaming. So she got her some Motrin. After a bit she started to settle down. She actually accepted a sucker from the nurse. She wanted nothing to do with it the whole night. They sent us home with some narcotics and some clean dressing and instructions to call the burn center. She actually slept really good. Had to wake her up for medicine. Tough part was trying to get her to eat something with her medicine.
These pictures are of her foot 24 hours after. This was our second dressing change. Her first one this morning went flawless. My friend Amy came over to help me because I thought she was going to scream her head off but she didn't even flinch. Tonight I figured I could do it but she had a hard time. She pretty much screamed the whole time. She is doing ok with her medicine. After 3 hours she starts to feel itchy and complains about it a bit. She really has been tough. I will post ER pictures in a min.
